My Go-To Materials for Teletherapy

I’ve been doing speech therapy via teletherapy for years now and I absolutely love it! Along the way, I’ve found that some online materials are better than others at engaging kids and getting them motivated to talk and work on their speech and language goals. Here are some of my favorite tried and true websites and materials that really engage kids during online speech therapy sessions.

  1. Boom Cards. These cards are great for preschoolers all the way up to older kids and teens. Think digital flashcards that are interactive! These cards work on specific speech sounds, understanding language and expressing language. We can also work on neurotypical social skills with these cards! There are several creators that provide inclusive and diverse materials and there are materials in Spanish.

  2. ABCya.com. There are games for all ages! I especially like all of the “Make a ___” games. Kids can design and decorate anything from cookies and treehouses to face masks and backpacks!

  3. pbskids.com. I’ve had lots of success getting kids to talk and practice their speech and language skills using Cookie Creator, Powersuit Maker, Daniel Tiger’s Dress Up, Arthur’s Treehouse Designer, and Pet + Cat’s Hair Salon. These games are creative and keep kids engaged. Great for describing, forming complete sentences and using vocabulary!

  4. National Geographic Kids. Kids really love the personality quizzes! They can find out what kind of “ice cream” or “dinosaur” they are by answering a few fun questions with pictures for answer choices. This really gets kids talking and we can work on all kinds of speech and language goals like taking turns in conversation, speech sounds and answering questions!

  5. Toy Theater. These games are great for reinforcement! I usually have the child practice their sound or work on a skill a few times and then they get to take a couple of turns at checkers or mini golf!

  6. Highlights Kids. Kids love trying to search for pictures and love to find them before I do! This is great as a reinforcement or as a speech-language activity. Kids can use their speech sounds to talk about where the items are while forming complete sentences and using their speech sounds.

These are just a few of the materials that I use during teletherapy. There are so many ways to engage kids in online sessions and I love learning about each child and what motivates them. It’s so amazing to see kids progress on their speech and language goals and become confident communicators!
